A fair and efficient detective, Keiko Kirishima, investigates two mysterious suicides. Somehow the two incidents seem to be connected, since the victims daled the same number 0 using their mobiles just before their death. In the scene, they find evidence about a man, a so called Night Detective, who can enter one's dreams. The murders are still a riddle, and later on we even find out that the murderer holds the same power of slipping into people's dreams. Even though Keiko is aware that a dire ending is to be expected, she realizes that the number is her last resort, so she faces the truth and dials the deadly 0 by herself.
RomeFilmFest 2006
Nightmare Detective is a film that reveals Tsukamoto Shinya`s world as represented by the metallic nature of the city and desire of men in a modified form for a broader audience. The film follows the rules of classical thrillers dealing with supernatural phenomena yet Tsukamoto`s innovative visuals persist. Darkness, nightmares, killing, the destructive power of nature, paranoia within the subconscious, and the conflict of men crossing from the dream world into reality fit into the theme.
