Film description
Cast:
Arthur Boni, Jan Decleir, Fedja van Huêt (Onno), Piet Kamerman (Konraad), Carmen Lith (Zilver), Karina Smulders (Eva), Tamar van den Dop (Sabine)
Three sisters feeling the stagnation of their lives. Their helpless husbands and the children, frightened by their parents' arguing. And then the farewell letter from the father, in which he writes that he will take his own life.
It is the calm that captivates the spectator. The calm of the camera, the editing, the way the director watches. Nanouk Leopold sets up a framework in which they might be able to find their way back to themselves and then perhaps to each other. The characters' tension can melt away, bit by bit. Even if the film tells a family drama, the tone of voice is never pessimistic, the shots always seem to find a way out. Time and again light from a window falls on one of the figures.

Konraad writes a letter. This is where the film begins. Eventually he will die. This is where the film ends. Within one family, we witness a period in which everyone has ended up alone, in which everyone has to find a way to break through isolation. Konraad's choice to die is the pivotal point for the rest of the family. They measure themselves against him as they discover how they bear his choice.
